INNOVACIÓN EDUCATIVA: El magnífico uso de blogs para una enseñanza-aprendizaje más motivadora en el CEPA Paulo Freire

The CEPA Paulo Freire  participated in the first edition of the Educational Innovation prize with the project “We study conTICgo” within the category “Design of Learning Space”. Surely at this moment you are wondering what is the CEPA Paulo Freire? And in what is “We study with IT”?

CEPA Paulo Freire is an Adult Education Center for public education located in Fuenlabrada, one of the most populated areas of the southern arch of the Community of Madrid. In this center, initial teaching and Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) are taught in face-to-face, blended learning and distance learning. His project, “We study conTICgo” , is aimed at adults who attend ESO distance and blended learning.

The great adventure “We study with ICT” is the creation of blogs in distance education for adults that generate a more active and motivating teaching-learning experience. The initiative has managed to take a step towards technological innovation; you have established a communication channel between students and proficient teachers, which has allowed many students to follow the course, who for various reasons are forced to miss class, and encouraged the active participation of students.

From the CEPA Management Team they chose the Blogger technology for being an effective, free, intuitive, and simple tool to learn that they offered them all the necessary tools to give a good service to their students.

The specific objectives of its blog platform are summarized in three basic objectives: To facilitate the follow-up of the course to distance education students to combat absenteeism and improve the digital competence of the entire educational community.

Blogs were created in 2012 and have undergone a series of changes since then, growing in usefulness, and from there, on recipients. There are four phases of implementation of the project:

Phase 1. Creation for the student away.

Blogs are created with the intention of:

  • Establish a channel of communication between teachers and students and between the students themselves.
  • Offer a channel to publish materials and aids that facilitate the student’s work, curricular material and tools to help self-learning.
  • Facilitate and disseminate an informative guide that sets an appropriate pace of study and provides guidelines for better time planning, facilitating personal, social and work development.

Phase 2. Expansion to the rest of the center

The face-to-face teachers were themselves with those students whose students could download freeing them from the task of copying to focus on thinking, attending, reasoning and discussing.

In addition, these blogs allowed face-to-face teachers to use them with those who, for work or personal reasons, had to miss more or less long periods.

Phase 3. Generalization

In the 2016/17 academic year, the Paulo Freire center expanded its educational offer. Immediately, the Management Team thought of the strategy of blogs as a basic way of organizing learning activities.

At the end of this phase, the recipients were almost all of their students.

Phase 4. Consolidation and growth

The blogs were collected in the CEPA Paulo Freire student help portal. www.cepapaulofreire.com . This portal was created in July of 2017 and in September of the same year, blogs were opened to attend also blended learning students.

In 2017-2018, two new blogs have been created for the web portal: “La gacepa, La voz del Freire” and “Paulo Freire Cepa Informatics Courses”. This is joined by a new information space: Erasmus + Corner and a very active section of academic and professional guidance . These developments increase and enrich the training and information offer of the portal.

The success obtained with blogs has contributed enormously in the modernization of methodologies , since it has triggered the creation of materials by the teachers, and has been exported to face-to-face modality, as well as other teachings. That’s why they created the help portal, to have all the learning blogs and all the information to be collected in one place.

The student help portal is open , although focused on information from its center, anyone can obtain information on adult education, academic and professional guidance, access to notes, videos, explanations of all subjects. They also have a private part, which they actively develop through Google Classroom.

THE MATERIA BLOGS

The most important and developed part of this help portal is the secondary category at a distance . This category includes blogs for each subject of the two levels of secondary education for adults whose content is updated weekly by the teacher. Currently there are a total of 10 blogs away:

 

DISSEMINATION OF THE PRACTICE AND PROMOTION OF THE INSTITUTION.

In the CEPA they reach their potential students through different media. Each blog of the Site has a direct widget to their networks: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Finally, we emphasize that in “We study with IT” they protect copyright , according to the Intellectual Property Law 22/1987. Therefore, each blog has a Creative Commons License (Recognition – Non-commercial – Share Equal – 3.0) to allow the dissemination of content and enrich the international intellectual community.
